CREWE Alex boss David Artell is happy with the three players he has signed so far in the off-season.

Strikers Chris Porter and Jordan Bowery, plus centre-half Michael Raynes have jumped on board in the summer.

But he has said he will be looking to bring in another midfielder Artell said: “I have just tried to be open and honest with the players I’ve met so far. I tell them how it is.

“That is how I work. I don’t tell them one thing and then do something different.

“I have just told them where I see them fitting in and what we need from them.

“I think players appreciate that. I know I did when I was a player. I didn’t like false promises and preferred the manager being honest with me.

“The players wanted their futures settled as quickly as possible and I was happy for this club to oblige because they are the type of players I wanted at this Football Club.

“They know what we are trying to do here and I am delighted to have them.”

Artell said he needs to add another midfield player and a couple of defenders to his squad at the very least, but the trio they already signed has given the squad a boost.

Artell added: “If we had lost the likes of Guthrie, Turton and then Bingham and Hollands for family reasons, and not signed anyone then I am sure the fans would have been asking what is going on.

“It would have been a case of trying to get one over the line for the sake of it and I won’t do that.

“That is not the right way to do things. I want good players at this football club and I think the staff have done a great job with the three we have managed to get in so far.

“It can be incessant but I am not complaining. We have a bit to go but we have irons in the fire and we will get more over the line.

“It is all promising and the hard work is paying off.”
