NANTWICH Town boss Steve Davis is already in talks to strength his squad for their UniBond Premier challenge.

Several targets have been identified ahead of a what should be a busy summer down at the Weaver Stadium.

“We want to keep the nucleus of the squad together because that continuity is important and they deserve a chance."

Defensive reinforcements look to be the top of the wish list along with a wide player and keeper should Lee Jones hang up his gloves.

Prolific non-league striker Michael Lennon's name has also been linked with the Dabbers alongside former loanee Charlie O'Loughran.

The 18-year-old centre-half is on the look-out for a new club after being released by Port Vale.

However Davis reiterated hopes of giving the majority of his successful side a chance to prove themselves at the higher level.

Almost all of the side that lifted the FA Vase are still together, going on to win successive promotions over the past two years.

Continuity is important.

"Everybody wants to stay and I don't think we'll be short of players wanting to be a part of what is going on here, "We want to keep the nucleus of the squad together because that continuity is important and they deserve a chance.

"But we also want to bring in some who help to carry us forward.

"I've spoken to two or three by phone but we haven't got anything sorted out yet."

Long-serving Danny Griggs, top-scorer Ashley Carter and Glyn Blackhurst are still under contract but the futures of former Alex striker Pav Suhaj and co are up in the air.

"We're meeting with the lads over the next two to three days," added Davis.

"We're looking at who is on what and renegotiating deals.

"We've got three still on contract but the rest are up."

Davis hopes Nantwich can get that elusive game against Crewe during pre-season.

Premiership-bound Stoke and League Two Port Vale are also candidates.

"We're hoping to get a game against Crewe and we've also made contact with Vale and Stoke.

"We've penciled in FC United on August 9 and we've got some others in mind. "

Nantwich Town's youngsters have added more silverware to the cabinet.

The Dabbers Under 17 side lifted the Sentinel Cup with a 3-1 win over Milton United at Vale Park.

It capped a fine season for Tony Ledwards' side who have also won the North West Youth Alliance Football League's Open Cup.

They also reached the League and Cheshire Cup finals.

Luke Goddards, Steve McNicholl and an own goal from Gareth Stanyer ensured success.

Ledwards was delighted with his side.

"For us to win an under 18 competition with an under 17 side is fantastic," he said.

"We will be back next year to have another go at winning it."
