NANTWICH Town are set to land non-league hot-shot Michael Lennon this week.

The Dabbers are gearing up for their first crack at UniBond Premier football by making some quality additions.

And it is some coup to get Lennon down to the Weaver Stadium among five potenial new arrivals.

Renowned for huge goal tallies during his Newcastle Town days, the 27-year-old has been one of the hottest non-league properties going.

With some people feeling he's had a lean season with 22 goals, that says it all.

Lennon bagged 51 in his first of two seasons with Kidsgrove Athletic and could be swayed by Premier football.

"He's agreed to come," said boss Steve Davis.

"I spoke to him on Tuesday by phone and although he was also talking to other clubs, he's told them that he is signing for Nantwich.

"He's happy and I'm sure he'll be a great asset.

"I'm sure he's well capable of making a couple of steps up, he just needs to push himself.

"He's a goalscorer and I've been trying to get him here for a couple of years so I'm pleased it's finally happened."

Peter Heler and Dave Whittaker have already decided to join the Dabbers.

Having played for Vauxhall Motors in Blue Square North, former Alsager Town man Heler can operate both out wide or as a striker.

Whittaker arrives straight from the Bullets with vast experience of the UniBond League as a centre-half or striker.

"They'll both add something to our side," added Davis.

"Peter's 24 and David's 29 and they'll bring a wealth of experience."

Davis is also due to hold further talks with Witton Albion midfielder Dave McPherson and Altrincham centre-half and former target Darren Tinson.

In house everyone is expected to stay with Nantwich, including Andy Kinsey and Paul Taylor who have yet to confirm their futures.

"I've spoke to Tinno and he was very positive," continued Davis.

"He was very keen to come.

"He doesn't want the travelling with the Conference, he's got a young family and wants to stay local.

"We've talked about the club's ambition and where we want to be.

"He's just what we need at the back with leadership and experience at a higher level.

"We're still not sure what Andy and Paul will do but the rest of the lads have decided to stay.

Nantwich will play the majority of their pre-season games away due to work on the pitch.

Due to the waterlogged problems of last season, the club will relay the turf imminently.

The following away fixtures have been confirmed: Stone Doninoes - Saturday, July 12; Biddulph - July 22; Kidsgrove - July 26; Norton - August 2; Market Drayton - August 5; FC United of Manchester - August 9.

But the game against Crewe is ON.

Alex arrive at the Weaver Stadium on Monday, August 4 at 7.30pm.

"It's good to get the game on and the date suits us because it gives us longer for the pitch to settle down," concluded Davis.
