Green joins the new recruits

11:04am Thursday 3rd July 2008

NANTWICH Town have brought in further reinforcements with the addition of Ryan Green.

The 18-year-old striker is the ninth recruit of a busy summer as the Dabbers prepare for their first ever season of UniBond Premier football.

It’s been an impressive array of business down at the Weaver Stadium and Green joins the likes of Mickey Lennon and Darren Tinson through the entrance.

Assistant boss Peter Hall knows all about the Stoke-based forward who has just been released by League Two Rotherham.

“Ryan has agreed non-contract terms and joins from Rotherham after being one of a number of players released due to the club’s financial difficulties,” said a Nantwich spokesman.

“His arrival at The Weaver Stadium has been arranged by Peter who coached him at Port Vale before leaving for Rotherham at 16 to take up a two-year scholarship.”

Nantwich haven’t done yet with an understudy to keeper Lee Jones still on the priority list.

Meanwhile the club have hailed last weekend’s Junior 5-A-Side Football Festival as a resounding success.

Over 50 teams turned out for the competition held for the first time on the artificial pitch.

Previously held on The Barony, five finals closed a superb seven-hour tourny.

Crewe FC beat Brookfield Rangers in Years 5&6; Alex Redstar bested Nantwich in Year 7 while the Dabbers bounced back to see off Tetley Tea in Year 8.

Ellesmere Port downed the Allstars in Year 9 while United beat Willaston White Star to take the Year 10 crown.

“It was a throughly enjoyable occasion for both children and parents,” explained Nantwich Junior football coach Martin Haslam.

“We were paid many compliments throughout the day.

“On behalf of the referees, stewards and anyone who gave their time so the event could take place, I would like to pay tribute to all those who took part and for the excellent way they conducted themselves.”

Nantwich kick-off their pre-season campaign at Stone Dominoes next Saturday, KO 3pm.
