RODNEY Jack has had his hopes of a deal with Nantwich Town shattered.
The 36-year-old is out of action after picking up an ankle injury in last Friday’s 3-0 defeat against FC United.
“Perhaps when he is fit again, maybe an opportunity will arise."
Steve Davis
However boss Steve Davis could throw the former Alex favourite a lifeline in the future.
“The reality is the ankle injury is going to sideline him for a while,” he said.
“So his enforced absence is going to prevent us from taking a longer look at him.
“Perhaps when he is fit again, maybe an opportunity will arise.
“But for now he is not under consideration.”
Davis wasn’t worried about a convincing loss against their UniBond Premier rivals.
Three games in just five days took its toll on Nantwich who wilted at the neutral territory of Witton Albion.
Kyle Wilson gave United a fifth-minute lead as Karl Marginson’s side dictated affairs.
Both Ryan Shotton and Phil Parkinson drew good saves out of Sam Ashton however Mark Beeston’s unfortunate own-goal proved a disastrous start to the second-half.
Jack injury’s dampened the night further before sub Rhys Hardle added a late third.
Davis explained his view: “It’s never nice to lose,” he added.
“But I purposefully arranged a heavy schedule so I could see which players performed best under a punishing schedule.
“It has proved valuable and while some observers may have been unhappy with the formation and result, I had no intention of giving an insight into how we will line-up when the season gets underway.”
Davis and the staff have finalised their squad for the Premier challenge that begins at Hednesford Town next Tuesday.
“Contract players apart, the decision regarding the final squad has been made,” he said.
“Unfortunately there will be several players who will have to move on because they aren’t of the quality required for the Premier Division.”
