JIMMY Quinn was left bemoaning his side’s defensive frailties after scraping a 2-2 draw with nine-man Hednesford Town at the Weaver Stadium.

The result leaves Nantwich Town six points adrift of the Evo-Stik Premier Division’s play-off places, with a make-or-break game against promotion rivals Bradford Park Avenue to come on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

“I said at half time the only way they are going to score is a set piece so let’s not give them away or give them the opportunities,” said Quinn.

“We let that happen and their centre-half got a free header.

“What we put that down to, I’m not sure, but some lads haven’t trained this week and that’s not helped us practise set pieces.

“We can’t put it all down to that though, even with nine men they were winning all the second balls and we just weren’t at the races.”

The arrival of new signing and former football league striker Lee Steele, following his recent dismissal from Oxford City for comments made on social media site Twitter, did not provide the boost Quinn was hoping for.

Though the Dabbers boss has confirmed that he is keeping his eye out for further additions to the squad.

He said: “I am pleased to have been able to bring Lee into the squad.

“He is an experienced proven striker that holds the ball up and can make a difference to us and hopefully we will be in a position to strengthen the squad further over the next couple of weeks.”

Steele arrives at the club with more than 300 games under his belt, at Shrewsbury, Leyton Orient, Brighton, Oxford United and Chester City.

He has also played for non-league sides Northwich Victoria, Barrow and Oxford City.
