Nantwich Town 3 Kendal Town 0

TWO goals from Michael Lennon helped Nantwich Town to a 3-0 victory over Kendal Town at the Weaver Stadium.

Dabbers manager Jimmy Quinn fielded seven players under the age of 21 in his starting XI and it was one of them, Tom Urwin, who grabbed the second goal for Nantwich.

The first half saw little opportunities for both sides with Nantwich slightly edging the play.

Mat Bailey went close from a Zak Foster corner but his header was blocked on the line by Adam Farrell.

Si Everall caused problems for the Kendal defence throughout and he was close to breaking the deadlock on the quarter hour mark, but Shaun Gray prevented his effort from nestling in the bottom right hand corner of Craig Dootson’s goal.

Everall went close again on 30 minutes, this time from an inch perfect Caspar Hughes cross but the Dabbers striker headed just over.

Kendal created chances of their own mainly through their captain, Ciaran Donnelly, who twice flashed wide of Jon Brain’s left hand post from range.

The Cumbrians were the better side during the early stages of the second half and should have taken the lead through Kevin Leadbetter but the midfielder shot wide from the edge of the area.

Nantwich took the lead on 71 minutes when, after good build up, Andy White’s left footed cross was headed into the bottom left hand corner by Lennon.

That lead was doubled ten minutes later when Everall again broke clear and fed through Lennon who cut back for Urwin to hammer into the bottom right hand corner.

The win was sealed in stoppage time as Niall Maguire battled hard to win the ball in midfield before finding Lennon perfectly and the front man grabbed his brace with a fine strike from the edge of the area.
