Nantwich Town 0 Hednesford Town 0

NANTWICH Town extended their unbeaten run to three after playing out a stalemate with play-off chasing hosts Hednesford Town.

They have no chances of reaching the play-off places, but Dabbers will look to continue the run of form that has seen them move into eighth in the Evo-Stik Premier Division table when they host Frickley Athletic on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Dabbers have also learned that they will face Blue Square Bet North’s Staleybridge Celtic in the Cheshire Senior Cup final at Chester FC's Exacta Stadium on Tuesday, April 24, kick off 7.45pm.

It was only a solid defensive effort that prevented Hednesford from taking all three points in a game their manager described as a ‘must win’.

Hednesford dominated the early possession, but Simon Everall went close to giving Nantwich a shock lead on eight minutes when disguising his run almost allowed him to head Caspar Hughes’ free-kick in at the back post.

For all Hednesford’s possession, Nantwich still created opportunities and could have taken the lead on the stroke of half-time as Tom Urwin’s corner was flicked on by Rod McDonald to Dave MacPherson, but his strike was well saved by Dan Crane.

Dabbers captain Chris Flynn replaced Zak Foster on 69 minutes and immediately made an impact by winning a flick-on header to present Everall with a golden opportunity, but the striker sent his effort wide.

The second half was not as busy as the first for either keeper, but Nantwich substitute Josh Lane could have got his first Dabbers goal with just 15 minutes to go as Michael Lennon weaved between two Hednesford defenders and cut back for the young striker to hammer over from six yards.

Cooke nearly marked his return from suspension with a last-gasp winner when he latched on to Urwin’s pass, but he struck wide to ensure only a share of the spoils.
