Nantwich Town 0 AFC Fylde 3

NANTWICH failed to build on the victory over FC United when losing at home to AFC Fylde on Tuesday night.

Second-half goals from Jack Dorney, Michael Barnes and Richie Allen proved to be enough for a Nantwich side that failed to make early possession count.

Jimmy Quinn made one change to the side that won at Gigg Lane with Mat Bailey replacing Chris Flynn.

Nantwich failed to create many clear-cut chances in the first half with Mark Beesley going closest when he volleyed Will Jones’ flick-on well over.

The Dabbers started the second half brightly and were inches from taking the lead as Sean Cooke’s sweetly struck free-kick was pushed over by Ben Hinchliffe, who saved the Coasters again moments later as Niall Maguire found space from Cooke’s cross but failed to beat the former Northwich stopper.

The deadlock was broken on 53 minutes in controversial fashion as Rod McDonald allowed the ball to go behind the line, believing he would be getting a goal-kick, only for referee Nicholas Barnard to rule the ball came off a Nantwich head and was a corner.

Joe Booth whipped the corner in and Allen was quickest to react to flick past Brain at the front post.

The lead was doubled 10 minutes from time when The Dabbers failed to clear as Dorney was allowed time and space on the edge of the area to pick his spot and beat Brain with a low drive.

Five minutes later the game was put to bed as Barnes broke down the right and saw his shot deflect off Flynn, leaving Brain with no chance.

Nantwich: Brain, Moss, Foster (Hughes, 72), Smith (Flynn, 72), Bailey (C), McDonald, Cooke, Maguire, Beesley, Jones (Lane, 72), Short. Subs not used: McLachlan, Lowe.

FC United of Manchester 1 Nantwich Town 2

A SUPERB fight-back from Nantwich Town saw them take all three points from FC United of Manchester at Gigg Lane on Saturday.

The Dabbers scored twice in the final 15 minutes to ensure they quickly returned to winning ways after last week’s FA Cup defeat to Chorley.

Goals from Niall Maguire and second-half substitute Mat Bailey were enough for Jimmy Quinn’s men after Matthew Wolfenden had given the hosts the lead.

Quinn made three changes to the side that lost at Chorley with Will Jones, Mark Beesley and Christian Smith replacing Bailey, Caspar Hughes and Matt Lowe.

Nantwich first went close on 10 minutes when the impressive Maguire broke from midfield and shot just wide.

The hosts always looked threatening on the break and were inches from taking the lead when their captain, Kyle Jacobs, cracked the bar from 25 yards.

The Dabbers’ best chance of the half fell to Darren Moss but he volleyed wide from six yards.

United had a good chance of their own when Lee Neville crossed for Carlos Roca but the Argentinian blasted over.

The Tameside outfit took the lead just before the hour mark as Wolfenden found space in behind the Nantwich defence and calmly slotted past Jonny Brain.

Nantwich fought back well though and the equaliser came 12 minutes from time as second-half substitute Josh Lane saw his cross half-blocked by Neville before the ball fell to Maguire, who curled the ball into the bottom right hand corner of James Spencer’s goal.

The Dabbers wrapped up a memorable victory with four minutes to go as Lane was again the provider, this time for Bailey, and the tall centre forward’s shot found the corner of the goal.

Nantwich: Brain, Flynn, Moss, McDonald, Foster, Cooke, Maguire, Smith (McLachlan, 56), Beesley, Jones (M. Bailey, 71), Short (Lane, 76). Subs not used: Lowe, Hughes.
