CURRENT holders Pioneers had to reply on their dominoes players to see them through to semi-finals of the Summer Team KO.
Normally such a potent force with the darts, they had to do their business at the table against a depleted Commercial side.
This was the pick of the quarter-finals of the Carlsberg UK Open League and Darts Summer Team comp.
And Mark Bennett and Barry Cooper got the Commercial off to a good start winning the first two games in 19 and 18 darts respectively before Pies skipper Pete Boughey responded hitting a 16 darter.
Commercial won the next thanks to Craig Sharples but they then conceded the next two games to allow Pioneers to draw level at 3-3 with Barry Cooper/Craig Sharples winning the pairs game for a 4-3 darts advantage.
All this was to no avail as the Pi’s dominoes players hit top form winning five of the six dominoes singles games to enable them to go into the semis with an 8-5 aggregate score.
The other premiership high-fliers Delamere took a 5-2 darts advantage over Second Division Crown with Rob Arrowsmith on the mark with a 17 dart game and a 180 maximum from Lyndon Cartwright.
The Crown fought back at dominoes to lead 4-2 after the singles games, leaving Delamere 7-6 ahead on aggregate needing to win one of the pairs games.
But their pairings of Kevin Tilley/Reg Beech and Craig Beech/Jeff Beech were both successful to give them a 9-6 aggregate victory.
The match between Second Division LMR B and First Division Dishers was a real close encounter being decided on the final game.
LMR took the darts 4-3 and having won the first three dominoes games held the advantage as they just required one more success.
but Dishers had started a comeback winning the next four dominoes games to level at 7-7 and leaving all to be decided on the final pairs game.
LMR duo Ray Mills/Kevin Goodwin came out on top to give them a place in the semi-finals with an 8-7 aggregate scoreline.
In the all premiership clash at the Vine A, visitors Rockwood strolled into the semi-final winning the darts 5-2 and the dominoes 4-2 for a easy 9-4 aggregate success.

Sydney Arms built a 5-2 darts advantage over visitors White Lion (Copp) A and shared the dominoes singles games 3-3 for an 8-5 aggregate victory.
Cross Keys captain Paul Tomkinson was in top form, winning in 16 darts including a 180 which helped to give the ‘Keys’ a 4-3 darts advantage over Raven B.
But they responded to take the dominoes 5-3 with a last gasp victory by Mel Gentle/Paul Owen giving the Raven a hard fought 8-7 aggregate passage into the next round.
There was also a cliff-hanger at the Bridge C as visitors Vine B took the darts 5-2.
