SHE may be about to conquer the world.
But you get the feeling Shanaze Reade won’t forget Crewe even if she does become a national treasure this month.
One of Team GB’s big medal hopes in Beijing, the BMX star was one of just 20 athletes to feature in an exhibition called Britain United on London’s South Bank.
When asked to select a back drop, the former Victoria High pupil chose a Crewe alleyway scene where her dreams began.
Running until September 17, the images are encased in 2.5m high back-lit frames which will be seen from across the Thames.
Photographer Jude Edginton said: “The idea behind the photography of Britain United is to creatively portray the diversity of our young British Olympians.
“Their chosen locations are themselves a celebration of the backdrop of Britain.
“One quote summed up for me what we were trying to do and it was from Shanaze.
“She said: ‘I am the local kid from Crewe just trying to do my best’.”
Sportswear firm Adidas, sponsor of Team GB and ParalympicGB, is behind the exhibition.
It will supply more than 120,000 items of specially tailored kit to more than 500 athletes during the Games.
