NEW first-team coach Steve Harding is quietly confident Crewe FC can have a good season.

That’s coming from someone who’s relishing the opportunity to shout loud from the sidelines.

After a couple of below-par finishes, the club hopes to be pushing at the top end of Cheshire League Division Two.

And as it all kicks-off against local rivals Tarporley Vics next Wednesday, Harding feels the side is in good shape.

Following back-to-back defeats, the former number one orchestrated a decent 1-1 draw at Wem Town on Tuesday night.

“It was my first time on the sidelines and I enjoyed it,” explained Harding.

“I felt I got a good reaction out of the players.

“I’m very vocal but in a postive way.

“Really I want to try and bring some of the younger lads in and mix it up.

“It’s all based on availability really.

“But I can see us in the top half and hopefully we can push on.

“There’s a few new teams in so I don’t know what we’re facing yet.”

The Shropshire side took charge just before the interval but a tactical switch turned the game.

Jon Dawson bagged a 70th-minute leveller while Adie Socha looked to have won it only for the offside flag to spring up.

“We played well in the second-half,” added Harding.

“Adie came on and changed the game to be fair.

“They were a good side but we looked better at 4-3-3.

“There’s light at the end of the tunnel although you never know if a train is coming.

“The players that come on did well and we’ve got a few to come back so I have some thinking to do.”

Crewe FC play Middlewich Town tonight and face their final pre-season test at Abbey Hulton on Saturday.
