CREWE’S hopes of an impressive double were all washed out.

Mike Holt and the boys were set to sink league leaders Leycett for a second time until the weather intervened.

After picking up their first win in ten, the NSSC Division One outfit were fired up to topple the promomotion favourites, last Saturday.

Rain had already reduced the game to 72 overs before Crewe got to opportunity to have a bowl at the hosts who were without star man Redfern.

Selected for the England Under 19 side to face New Zealand, Leycett missed him big time as their top order crumbled to 18-3.

In-form pro Mohammed Quershi and Holt ripped through before Tas Hussain (35) and Dinesh Darshanpriya (30) threatened to turn things around.

Holt finally broke their stand of 47 to spark a collapse with keeper Rizwan Arshad taking his third catch The dynamic duo mopped up quickly with only Ryan Jones showing any resistance with an unbeaten 12 in a below-par 92.

Holt lead the way with 5-33 while Quershi also claimed a fiver for 52.

Deteriorating conditions marred Crewe’s reply with Arshad departing for a duck.

Further rain saw their innings frustratingly close on 7-1.

After taking five points to their one, Crewe are eighth in the table.

They enertain second-placed Hem Heath on Saturday; start 1pm .

ELWORTH’S promotion push also suffered in the rain.

The Foxes were ready for a key match against Meir Heath only for heavy downpours to delay the start until after tea.

When play finally began, Elworth were getting themselves into a decent postion before the weather struck again.

Rob Beech (43), Pete Davis (13), Murray Ranger (35no) and Ross Kesteven (3no) took them to 97-2 before the game was called off after 23 overs.

Both claim a point each which is little help to their quest to catch the top two.

Now fourth, Blythe must be dispatched at home on Saturday.

WESTON did get play but couldn’t force a win against Oulton.

The Division One side made a good fight of it at Main Road, reaching 195-8 off 44 overs.

Phil Stockton (46), Raj Kumar (28) and Andy Young (25) added their weight from the top order while Saeed Khan (31) and Joe Gates (22) maintained that momentum.

Oulton were in deep at 4-2 but Shaun Meijer (33no) got them to 80-3 before the end of play.

Weston travel to rock-bottom Caverswall on Saturday.

NANTWICH didn’t even get a start against Widnes.

Rain ruined the day at Whitehouse Lane, leaving the Dabbers third in ECB Premier.

Nantwich are hoping to finish the season strongly.

They look for victory at struggling Macclesfield this Saturday.
