BETH Tweddle was forced to endure a nervous wait before sealing some Olympic salvation.
The 23-year-old from Bunbury had an agonising six hours before being assured of a place in the final of the uneven bars.
Overcoming a rib injury to compete in Beijing, Tweddle clung on to eighth place in qualifying with a score of 15.650 that ultimately made the grade.
The 2006 World Champion looked to have blown it when she hit her legs on the lower bar but bounced back to conclude her routine in some style.
It was sweet for the local heroine who missed out on a final spot four year ago.
However Great Britain failed to qualify for the women’s team gymnastics final.
They finished ninth overall after being pipped by Japan who finished on 233.175 points - just 0.75 ahead.
“I am disappointed that we didn’t manage to make eighth place and reach the team final,” said coach Colin Still.
“But I have delighted that Beth achieved the first part of her dream and reached the bar final.”
