Vagrants Hockey cuffed by Preston

Crewe Vagrants 0 Preston 2

CREWE Vagrants hockey team had a frustrating time of it in their home Premiership clash with Preston, who gave them few chances to penetrate their defence.

And Preston used their own fluent attack to administer punishing strikes at the close of each half.

The visitors forced two crucial saves from Will Murphy in quick succession as play oscillated between halves, with a good home attack culminating in Pete Cornell just failing to get round the visiting keeper.

In the final minute of the half, the visitors broke the stalemate with a well-taken strike from close range.

Preston resumed aggressively, shooting wide in the opening minutes and forcing a vital clearance from Woodhart.

Vagrants countered with an excellent dribble from Mike Baddeley and another fast break but passes were going astray.

Another Preston corner brought a superb save from Murphy.

Vagrants finally won their first corner but could not convert and Preston broke quickly, shooting wide.

The home side tried to press forward but the visitors countered, bringing a further vital defensive clearance from Woodhart.

Crewe had a clear chance to level through an electrifying run by Cornell but he lacked following support to foil the keeper.

With time running out, Preston broke quickly and rifled an angled shot past the diving Murphy to put the game beyond Crewe’s reach.
