Pioneers march on in Crewe Open League

PIONEERS A whitewashed bottom placed hosts British Lion B to make themselves hot favourites to take Premier Division Darts title in the Cumberland Arms sponsored Crewe Open League.

In form Pete Boughey hit a 14 dart leg, John Speed a 16 darter and a 180, while John Cooper and Ted Hankey both hit 17 darters, with Ted also hitting a 136 finish.

A 6-2 win at Cosey Club has put West End LMR B in the driving seat to be runners-up, replacing Commercial who lost 6-2 to visitors White Lion B.

Steve Hassall (Delamere) hit a 14 dart leg, Dave Bickerton (LMR B) a 16 darter with a 114 kill and Rob Arrowsmith (Delamere) a brace of 17 darters and a ton checkout.

Division 1 Darts toppers Nantwich Road ASLEF beat Foresters A 6-2 to go two points clear of Vine A, who won 5-3 at Horse Shoe.

WLFL A move up to third after beating hosts Bridge C 6-2 but are six points off the pace.

Dave Coyne (WLFL A) won in 16 and 18 darts and Damien Weaver (Hop Pole) in 19 and 20 and also hit a 180, as did Melvyn Roberts (WLFL A).

Division 2 Darts pacemakers Imperial won 6-2 at Duke A but had their lead reduced to 13 points by Coppenhall Leighton, who blanked Hawk.

Third placed Broughton Arms are just about hanging on after a 5-3 win at rock-bottom Rockwood, for whom ex-landlord Ken Fisher hit a 102 checkout.

Adele Probin (Imperial) hit a 17 dart leg, Simon Wilkins (Coppenhall) a 19 darter and Brendon Carberry and Darren Downey (Pioneers B) 20 darters, while Sam Williams (Hawk) hit a 160 checkout.

Division 3 Darts top four teams clashed.

Rileys A were held to a draw by fourth placed Sydney Arms but still take over top place by a point from Amalgamated Nomads, who forfeited their unbeaten record to third placed visitors Crown with a 6-2 loss.

Ben Snape (Rileys A) won in 20 darts and Phil Scane (Lion A) with a 104 checkout.

Division 4 Darts pacemakers Nags Head increased their points lead to eight after beating Junction 6-2.

Main rivals Dishers B beat Vine C 5-3 and are ten points ahead of Coach and Horses who scrambled a draw with fourth placed Coppenhall Club.

Paul Tomkinson (Coppenhall) won in 17 darts and Andrew Brereton (Webb A) with a 113 finish.

Division 5 Darts leaders Cumberland E had their bye week so now have a match in hand over their A team rivals, who temporarily cut the points gap to four after their 6-2 win at bottom placed Vine B, clinched by Dave Parry’s 113 checkout.

Third placed Brunel A kept up the pressure with a 6-2 victory over Victoria.

Division 6 Darts has new leaders in Rising Sun after their whitewash of Rileys B means they have dropped just four points in their last four matches.

IN the Crewe Open league Dominoes, Premier Division toppers Delamere were beaten 6-2 by Lady A.

Their lead was consequently trimmed to a single point from West End LMR B who won 5-3 at Cosey.

Third placed Golf Club are now well and truly in the rough after losing 7-1 to close rivals Cheshire Cheese.

Division 1 Dominoes saw Horse Shoe regaining top spot on matches won after a scrambled draw with Vine A.

Deposed leaders WLFL A went 3-0 ahead at bottom placed Bridge C until a determined rally saw the Bridge gain a good 5-3 victory.

Express have roared back into contention, their whitewash of hosts Amalgamated A lifting them to within a point of the leading pair.

Division 2 Dominoes top five places are unchanged after all teams were involved in drawn matches, although second placed Coppenhall Ltn may yet regret letting slip a 4-1 lead over closest rivals Hawk.

Division 3 Dominoes toppers Liberal Club A were beaten 5-3 by Amalgamated B, but fortunately retain their seven points buffer over a trio of chasing teams.

West End Band Club beat Cumberland C 5-3 to slip into second spot, due to a having a better record than Rileys with a match in hand.

Rileys drop to third after losing 5-3 to Sydney Arms, who move level with them but have won fewer matches.

Division 4 Dominoes top two Cumberland B and Junction beat Webb B and Nags Head 5-3 to leave a status quo.

Third placed Dishers B drop two points behind after drawing with Vine C.

Division 5 Dominoes top trio of Brunel A and B and Vine B all gained 5-3 victories over Victoria and Cumberland D and A to leave an unchanged position.

Division 6 Dominoes runaway leaders WLFL B beat Liberal B 5-3 and need two more points to ensure a top two finish, which is odds on to be as Champions.
