Hop Pole still top after loss

ALMOST half the matches in Crewe Open League’s dominoes divisions ended all square.

Hop Pole are in top spot in the Premier Division despite losing 5-3 at Pioneers Club A, due to deposed leaders W/End LMR B having their bye week.

Third-placed Vine A failed to take advantage, losing 5-3 at W/End Band C.

Division One has Express A, who were 5-3 winners at Nantwich Road ASLEF, taking over at the top on matches won.

They took over from Foresters A, who let slip a 4-2 advantage in their draw with WLFL A, with six points covering the top eight teams.

Division Two’s top three met the bottom three, with results not going quite as expected.

Top pair Crown and Rockwood went down 5-3 to the Amalgamated pair of Nomads and their B team, while third-placed Woodside drew with Coppenhall Club.

A keen contest sees five points covering the top eight teams.

Division Three leaders Liberal Club B walloped hosts Dishers B 7-1 to open up a three-point lead over Pioneers Club B.

Pioneers drew at fourth-placed Horse Shoe, after the hosts let slip a 4-2 lead.

Sydney Arms' 7-1 win at Vine C moved them up two places to third and two points behind Pioneers B.

Division Four's pacemakers Waldron B were held to a draw by Duke of Bridgewater B and now face a strong challenge from their A team, who were 5-3 winners at Kings Arms B.

Third-placed Cumberland C, now without a win in four matches, lost 5-3 at Delamere B but are somehow managing to hold on to their spot.

Division Five produced three draws in four matches for the second week running.

Top two Prince of Wales B and Delamere A were involved in two of those -against Dishers A and Old Oddfellows- to leave an unchanged position.

Prince B may yet rue letting slip a 4-1 lead, especially as sole winners Brunel overturned a 3-1 deficit to beat White Lion A 5-3 to stay third and are making steady progress for a top two spot.

Collapse of the night was by Captain Webb A, who drew with Prince of Wales A after being 4-0 ahead.

Division Six only had two matches, both ending all square.

Top two Swan and Chequers and Rileys B did not play, so Rising Sun B’s draw with Lady C enabled them to nip in to split the pair, while remaining five points off the pace.
