Daten 3 Crewe 5
CREWE’S steady march towards the Cheshire Football League Division Two title received another boost when they edged an eight-goal thriller against Daten.
Sitting pretty at the top of the division with a 12-point lead, having played two matches more than nearest rivals Sandbach, Crewe face another difficult task when welcoming third-placed Rudheath Social on Saturday, kick off 2pm.
Rudheath are 13 points behind Crewe but have four games in hand, so this match could well prove to be a 'six-pointer' come the end of the season.
Nathan Tizzard could well have done enough to earn himself a starting berth on Saturday, thanks to his two-goal substitute appearance against Daten.
Crewe’s tactical substitution came when they were trailing for the first time in the match, with Tizzard lashing home the equaliser before adding a second seven minutes later to hand his side all three points.
Crewe had enjoyed the run of the match up to that point, taking the lead twice in the first half through Ian Carr and Danny Lloyd only to see defensive lapses earn the visitors a 2-2 draw at the break.
Daten then enjoyed their best spell of the match, taking the lead following Gregory’s free kick and relegating the hosts to the back foot for the first time in the match.
But then Tizzard emerged to save the day for Crewe, netting twice in 10 minutes to rescue his side’s one-goal advantage.
There was still time for defender Steve Parker to make his impact, with his mazy dribble and shot adding gloss to a 5-3 scoreline moments before the final whistle.
