VINE A have cut their points deficit on Crewe Open Dominoes League leaders WestEnd LMR B to six after beating them 5-3.
Vine’s chances of taking over at the top are still wide open, with having a match in hand.
The singles games were shared but Vine gained important points by taking both pairs matches.
Hop Pole are four points back in third spot thanks to them ending their lean spell with a 7-1 hammering of Imperial.
Division One’s leaders Express A lost 5-3 at Bridge C, meaning their lead was cut to six points by challengers Amalgamated A, Foresters A and Nantwich Road ASLEF, who all drew.
The ’Mals and Foresters A may yet regret the loss of three game advantages because seven points cover second to eighth places.
Division Two’s leaders Rockwood won 6-2 at fourth-placed Crown to go four points ahead of Woodside, who scrambled a draw with fifth-placed Bridge A. Third-placed Kings A beat Amalgamated Nomads 5-3 and are now five points ahead of Crown.
With five teams chasing two trophy slots, an important factor is that nearly 40 percent of all matches in this section have ended all square this year.
Division Three’s top four teams were humbled by the bottom four.
Leaders Horse Shoe lost 6-2 to Dishers B and hold top spot only by courtesy of their win over second-placed Liberal A, who let slip a 3-1 lead to draw at bottom-placed WLFL B.
Seven points off the pace in third are Vine C, who were beaten 6-2 at Duke A, and Pioneers B, who were held to a draw by Lady B.
The top four teams met in Division Four.
Leaders Waldron B move three points clear after a 5-3 win at fourth-placed Coppenhall Club, who are still in with a chance of a trophy spot.
Second-placed Cumberland C drew at third-placed Waldron A to maintain their three-point buffer.
Division Five leaders Brunel were held to a draw by bottom team Old Oddfellows, with main challengers Prince B now two points back after a 5-3 win at Delamere A.
Third-placed Dishers A beat White Lion A 5-3 and their next match is a visit to Prince B.
Division Six leaders Swan and Chequers claimed the Champions tag by hammering Rileys B 7-1.
Second-placed Rising Sun B lost 5-3 at Cumberland A but the latter have a crucial match in hand in which to make up the six points deficit.
