Ricky Gervais has claimed he only works out so he can eat more cheese.

The rotund British comedian says he does have a gym but insisted he is not conforming to Hollywood pressure to lose weight.

Ricky said: "I have got a gym and I do use it all the time, it's just then I go and eat copious amounts of cheese and wine. So I work out so I can eat more cheese so that's why I wanna work out and live longer - to eat more cheese.

"But no I am not gonna, I'm not on a diet obviously - if I am on a diet it's going really badly wrong."

The Office star - who plays a dentist who can see ghosts in his new movie Ghost Town - added he would not be getting his "crooked teeth" fixed.

He added: "I am not gonna change my teeth. One journalist put her hand up at one of the junkets in the Toronto Film Festival and said 'I love the gag that you're playing the dentist but you wear those awful teeth'.

"I went 'sorry?' and I said, 'no they're my real ones', and she went 'really?' Unbelievable!"

Ghost Town is released in cinemas on Friday October 24.
