Spencer Pratt is apologising to his estranged wife Heidi Montag for acting out in their break-up.

The former stars of MTV reality show The Hills, which ended in July, separated last May after one year of marriage.

Heidi cited irreconcilable differences when she filed for separation from Spencer in June. Spencer said he would release a sex tape featuring his ex.

Now the 27-year-old has issued an emailed statement saying the demise of their relationship was so painful he wanted to lash out. He admitted to making "certain private issues public" and "horribly embarrassing the one person who meant the world to me".

He also said his behaviour was "outrageous and infantile".

Spencer also said in the email that he had failed at handling his divorce with dignity and maturity and vowed to work on himself.
