Robbie jokes about Owen's 'trouble'

Robbie Williams has attempted to make light of his former bandmate's personal woes, joking it was "nice" that he was not the one in trouble.

Playing a small gig in London, the popstar, who has battled drug and alcohol addictions in the past, said it was a "surprise" that he had not been the one to hit the headlines for the wrong reasons this week.

Before launching into his first song, Bodies, he told the 300-strong crowd: "This is going to be one of the best nights of my life. Do you know, it's nice to be one of the only ones out of Take That not in trouble this week. That's a surprise, isn't it?"

Williams's former bandmate Mark Owen confessed earlier this week to battles with womanising and drink.

The 38-year-old checked into a "private clinic" after apologising for having a string of affairs behind his wife's back and revealing he had an alcohol problem.

The pop star and his wife Emma, who have two children, married only last October but have been together for five years.

Williams's one-hour set was organised by the Heart radio network as part of Heart Love Music Live, with the audience made up of competition winners.

Some 2.4 million people had called for the exclusive tickets.

The singer entertained the crowd with songs from his latest album, before launching into his old hits, including Rock DJ, Feel and Supreme.

Announcing he was dedicating No Regrets to Take That, a request from the crowd led him to dedicate the song to an audience member. Williams also sang recent single, You Know Me, in honour of fiancee Ayda Field.
