Catalans Dragons full-back Clint Greenshields is facing a three-month lay-off after breaking a leg in his side's 20-16 home defeat by Castleford at the weekend.
The latest injury blow is a major setback to the Dragons' hopes of turning around a dismal start to the Engage Super League season.
They are joint bottom of the table with Harlequins after winning just one of their opening six matches and are already without regular half-back pair Adam Mogg and Thomas Bosc through injury.
Greenshields, an Australian who represented France in the 2009 Four Nations after qualifying through residency, was an ever-present in his first two Super League seasons with the Perpignan club and missed only three games last year.
Centre Chris Walker stepped in at full-back for the opening game of the season at Wakefield when Greenshields fell ill but he is doubtful for Friday's trip to Crusaders after picking up a calf injury against Castleford.
"Clint's got his leg in plaster and he's going to be 10 to 12 weeks," said coach Kevin Walters.
"Chris Walker is not too good either. He's going for a scan on his calf. I haven't thought too far down the line about who's going to play full-back.
"We've just got to try and do the best we can."
Walters confirmed that Bosc, his newly-appointed skipper who damaged ankle ligaments in pre-season, would not be fit for Friday's game at the Racecourse.
