LAST year there was an application for 175 houses off Park Road, Willaston which received 100 objections. I chaired a packed public meeting about it at the primary school. Despite the enormous weight of objections the Cheshire East Council failed to determine the application in the required time.

As a result the application has gone straight to appeal, so it will now be decided by an unelected Planning Inspector, instead of the local elected councillors.

This is not the first time this has happened. The application for 146 houses off Moorfields,Willaston in 2014 went straight to appeal and that application was passed. It was taken to judicial review by the council and now the application will be decided at a further planning appeal.

It is a sad fact that the 21 new houses off Cheerbrook Road and the 40 houses off Eastern Road in Willaston, both in the green gap, were passed by Conservative councillors on the planning committee in 2013/14.

Green gaps are not safe with the Conservatives.
