Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale's time travel adventure is taking to the stage and it will open at Manchester Opera House before its West End run.
The 12-week season begins on February, 20, 2020, and will see the original creators teaming up with producer Colin Ingram, who was behind Ghost The Musical, and Tony Award-winning director John Rando. Emmy and Grammy Award-winning Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy Award-winning Glen Ballard are also part of the creative team to provide new music.
The role of Marty McFly – made famous by Michael J. Fox – will be played by Olly Dobson, whose previous West End credits include the original cast of Bat Out Of Hell The Musical and Matilda.
Back to the Future the movie was released in 1985, grossing $360.6 million (£279 million) at the box office worldwide.
Marty McFly is a rock ‘n’ roll teenager who is accidentally transported back to 1955 in a time-travelling DeLorean invented by his friend, Dr Emmett Brown.
But before he can return to 1985, Marty must make sure his high school-aged parents fall in love in order to save his own existence.
Producer Colin Ingram said: “This show has been six years in the making and we are delighted to be showing it to Manchester first."
