I’D like to back up the view expressed by David Barker (Guardian, December 11) that the letters page should only be used for readers’ contributions and not for political gain by prospective candidates in the run-up to an election.
In particular, Dr Adrian Heald, Labour’s PPC, seems to get a letter published in the Guardian every other week.
If this isn’t an example of writing dozens of letters for his own free publicity and political gain then I don’t know what is.
When did a letter last get published from the actual serving MP and not someone just hoping to be one?
