RESIDENTS from a care home in Winsford had lots of young visitors in this week.
Nursery children from Start Well Learning visited The Laurels care home in Walnut Drive on Thursday, July 19, for an afternoon of fun with the residents.
The class trip was organised by Katie-Ann Champion, who works for the nursery as an early year’s practitioner, had the idea and wanted to help get the children out in their community.
Mary Brown, nursery manager, said: “It really is a brilliant idea what Katie has come to us with as some children won’t have elderly relatives, so it is nice for them to get to see and understand what their life is like.
"I suppose it will work both ways as the children’s presence can help to keep the elderly people mentally stimulated.”
The 17 children brought along some of their toys and games along with them to see the residents, who enjoyed getting to know them and playing together.
Sophie Birtles, one of the activity coordinators at The Laurels, said: “The social interaction is brilliant for the residents and they are already looking forward to the next visit by the children."
The school and care home look to continue this relationship after the summer with more fun-filled activity days in September.
