A STRIKING tribute to the men of Northwich who went to war and never came home has been installed at St Helen’s Church.

A memorial garden of 319 poppies is in place in Church Road, with a flower for each soldier who gave their lives in the First World War.

The Lych Gate has also been covered in knitted poppies ahead of Remembrance Sunday, 100 years since the end of the conflict.

Inside the church, which will be the focal point for a commemorative service on November 11, a map helps shine a light on the lives lost and shows where in the town they lived.

A ‘Northwich Remembers’ event at 7.30pm tomorrow, Friday, November 9, at the church will see the display open to the public, and viewing is also encouraged from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, November 10.

At 10am on Sunday, the Witton church will host a civic Remembrance service, as well as bellringing, before the nationwide ‘Beacons of Light’ project illuminates the tower at 7pm.
