THE 2019 Northwich calendar is now available, featuring scenes from the town created by the artists who live here.

Produced by Visual Arts Cheshire, DAN Community and the Northwich Art Shop, the images include historical sites and stunning scenery.

An exhibition of the 12 pieces of artwork will also be available to view as large reproductions at the Lion Salt Works.

Alan Carr, VAC chairman, said: “Northwich has so much to offer and the paintings are a lovely way to show off our town.

"Each year, the calendar – which represents great value at only £5 – becomes more popular.

"It is a great present for friends and family living locally as well as those who have moved away from the area."

The artists who have contributed to the 2019 calendar are Patricia Kelsall, Chris Howard, Ron Stephens, Carol Dooley, Antony Poynton, Tony Snowball, Jim Stanley, Veronica Oliver, Jim Williamson and Fred Woolley.

Patricia, an art teacher from Hartford, Northwich, has contributed two pictures this year.

She said: “The paintings I have contributed to this year’s calendar capture the vibrancy and energy of the people of the town.

"In a world where town centres can be uninspiring and very similar, I hope my pictures convey the sense of community and the striking features of the town that it make it such a distinctive and a great place to live.”

VAC is a Northwich community arts organisation who establish a gallery in the town centre each July – as a base for their month-long Art Trail. Their long term goal is to reopen a gallery permanently.

The Lion Salt Works exhibition will run from November 27 through to February 17.

Cllr Louise Gittins, Cheshire West and Chester Council cabinet member for communities and wellbeing, said: “This is a wonderful initiative. Northwich is a town with drive and passion; it is distinctive with its black and white buildings and it has outstanding woodlands and waterways.

"It also has nationally-significant historic sites like the Lion Salt Works Museum and the Anderton Boat Lift, which are both Scheduled Ancient Monuments with the same protection status as Stonehenge.

"There is so much to celebrate and this is an imaginative and creative way of showcasing the town.”

Businesses in the town have also lent a hand in producing the calendar, including Abda Coffee – Cake – Culture, Sew Easy, Charlie’s Café, Laundry b, Gilroy Wilson Shoes, Kanya Bistro, Relish Tandoori, Curtain Magic, Optisavers, The Salty Dog, Crafty Stitches, Skipton Building Society.

The A4-size 2019 calendar – the sixth in the series – costs £5 and is available from Northwich Art Shop, Weaver Hall Museum, Salt Museum, Northwich Library, Northwich Information Centre, Gilroy Wilson Shoes, Curtain Magic and Comberbach Post Office.
