ROTARY Club members have been planting crocuses to help turn Northwich purple in support of a campaign to eradicate polio.

Rotary club members Steve Wheat, David Seddon and David Roden spent a morning planting crocus bulbs at James House in Rudheath in the shape of a heart.

The trio, from both clubs, then went on to plant up a raised bed in the inner courtyard of James House, which is an independent living centre.

The bulbs are due to bloom in early March, for an eye-catching purple display representing the colour of dye put on children’s fingers following polio vaccinations.

Rotary has also recently gained two new members, both with pedigree in raising funds and awareness for their respective charities.

The new additions are Nigel Barrington-Smith, for the Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group, and Julie Duff, founder and CEO of Cheshire Downs Syndrome Support Group. – a charity partner with the Rotary Club of Northwich Vale Royal.

Nigel and Julie were welcomed to Rotary by club president Alan Bell.

Nigel returns to Rotary 30 years after his previous membership, and Julie has been an associate member for the past two years.
