SKIN cancer survivor Ella Worthington is taking on a world-famous 26-miler in memory of her mum and a close friend.

Ella, 46, from Knutsford, is looking to raise £10,000 for the Christie Hospital by taking part in next year’s London Marathon.

She will be running in memory of her mum Janet, who died four years ago aged 73, and her friend Angela Stewart, who died in September at the age of 46.

Janet, who lived in Spain, and Angela, from Stretford, died at the Christie Hospital, which has also treated Ella for skin cancer.

She was diagnosed just over a year ago after discovering a mole on her leg which looked abnormal, and is in remission after undergoing surgery.

Ella has a networking marketing business, and this will be her second time in the London Marathon after taking part last year in memory of her mum, who had ovarian cancer.

She raised just over £5,000 for Ovarian Cancer Action, and is hoping to double her fundraising at the 2019 marathon for the Christie.

She has set up an online donations page, and is planning a ladies day in Knutsford on Sunday, February 17, to help towards hitting her target.

Ella has also taken part twice in The Great North Run for charity, and is hoping to cut her London Marathon time of just over six hours to between four and a half and five hours second time around.

“Last year’s London Marathon was both euphoric and painful,” said Ella.

“The crowds were amazing, and I was so proud to be British running past all the famous landmarks – it was quite emotional. However my feet were in bits at the end, and I said I wouldn’t do it again.”

However her cancer treatment and the recent death of her close friend, along with her wish to support the Christie, have seen her decide to take on her second marathon.

She added: “I like a challenge, and it’s the right thing to do to give something back.

“I am running to say thank you to all the brilliant staff who have looked after me while I was undergoing treatment, and continue to do so.

“For each mile I run I will remember my mum and Angela, fabulous and inspirational women who impacted my life immensely.”
