CHESHIRE'S police and crime commissioner David Keane visited the NSPCC’s Warrington service centre in Great Sankey to present staff with a cheque for £40,000 to provide more support to sexual abuse victims.

The child protection charity was awarded a grant in October from the PCC’s Supporting Victims Fund.

Caroline Watts, service centre manager at the NSPCC’s Warrington base, said: “This grant money will help us to reach more vulnerable children in the community and we are very grateful for the commissioner’s support

"It was great to have David Keane visit our centre and he was very keen to find out more about the work we are doing to help children in this community.

“We know that one in three victims of child sexual abuse don’t tell anyone what has happened to them.”

The Supporting Young Victims Fund was set up following the completion of a review by the PCC’s office, which identified that victims of crime under the age of 18 were underrepresented with regards to victim services available to them in Cheshire.

Mr Keane said: “The work the NSPCC are doing to support children and young people in Cheshire is absolutely fantastic.

"It was fascinating to hear about the different ways they engage young people in order to help them overcome their experiences and I am looking forward to seeing how the grant will enable the programme to develop.”
