THE best performing primary schools in Warrington have been revealed by the Department of Education following this year's SATs results.

The tests are taken by pupils in year six to monitor childrens' skills in reading, writing and maths.

Primary school league tables rank schools by the percentage of children reaching the expected standard at end of key stage two in 2018.

Evelyn Street Primary School in Sankey Bridges topped the table again this year with 100 per cent of pupils meeting the expected standard.

Jenny Hindley, head teacher at Evelyn Street Primary School, said: "The team at Evelyn Street are delighted and proud of our fantastic results.

"Our staff and pupils are extremely dedicated and we are so fortunate to have such supportive parents, governors and neighbours.

Pupils are rated as 'well above the national average' in reading, writing and maths, with 55 per cent achieving a higher standard than expected.

Bruche Primary School climbed three places to rank second in the borough with 97 per cent of pupils meeting the expected standard and 28 per cent exceeding this.

Grappenhall Heys Community Primary School also improved significantly compared to last year's table and is now the fourth best performing school in Warrington with 90 per cent of pupils meeting the expected standard in their SATs.
