AN 11-YEAR-OLD girl has raised £170 for Alder Hey Children's Hospital to say thank you for the treatment she has received.

Niamh Lake, from Poulton-with–Fearnhead, was diagnosed with a hole in her heart aged two and has had three major operations to help manage the condition.

Over the years, Niamh has spent a lot of time in the hospital and has always found the staff to be friendly and kind.

The year 7 pupil at Birchwood High School wanted to show her appreciation for their work now she is feeling better.

Niamh raised money for the hospital in a number of ways.

She collected unwanted books from family and friends and with the help of her nan held book sales; she also made more than 60 keyrings, which she sold in a shop.

After raising the money, Niamh decided to donate half to the cardiology department who cared for her so well and the other half to the intensive care unit as she was touched by the story of Alfie Evans who passed away at Alder Hey last year.

Niamh said: “It was hard work raising the money but Alder Hey are brilliant and I’m really proud that I could do a bit to help them after they helped me.”
