CHARITY leaders are planning major improvements at the organisation’s base at Millington.

The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust is looking to build a contemporary new wing at the site, along with significant refurbishment.

“We are excited to announce plans which will make significant improvements to the accessibility, safety and functionality of our Millington site,” said Ian Eccles, the trust’s head of operations.

“The accommodation has developed organically over the years as and when funding has been made available, and the charity wishes to improve the facilities for visiting children to make their experience even more enjoyable, while continuing to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all visitors.”

The proposed development will include renovation of the farmhouse, a Grade II listed building, securing its long-term future.

A new wing is also proposed, which will provide new and essential inclusive access as well as flexibility to meet the needs of a wider range of disadvantaged children.

Following consultation with the local community, neighbours and members of the parish council, the charity has submitted a planning application to Cheshire East Council.

The charity provides free holidays, day visits and Christmas parties at its 10-acre site for disabled, ill and disadvantaged children from all over the north west.

It has evolved from modest beginnings in the early 1990s to now supporting more than 3,000 children each year, all provided through the fundraising efforts of the charity and their numerous local supporters.

The trust is inviting people to reserve their places at major fundraising events set to take place this year.

A golf day is being held at The Mere Golf Resort and Spa on May 2, followed on June 19 by a Ladies Lunch, again at The Mere.

Bowdon Cricket Club hosts It’s A Knockout on September 15, and the Christmas Ball takes place at The Mere on December 7.

CAFT hosts an open day on September 22, and the Christmas carol concert is on December 15.
