A CARE lodge in New Brighton held a 'dignity day' in a bid to showcase the care it provides for its residents.

Athena Healthcare Group's Lighthouse Lodge on Alexandra Road hosted the event on Friday, February 1.

On the day carers signed up to become a 'dignity champion' and sashes were made for Lighthouse Lodge residents.

Dementia Friends champion Joe Sherville delivered a session for people to learn more about the condition and how people can turn understanding into action.

A community open day was also held during the day, welcoming locals in to enjoy a buffet and enjoy the care lodge's facilities.

One of the 80 bedroom occupancy nursing and residential care lodges from Athena Healthcare Group opened in October but the second Alexandra Road based lodge is set to open in April.

Both lodges, named Lighthouse and Marine View, will offer superior nursing, residential and dementia care for the elderly while championing the need to help residents 'age well' in care homes.

Manager of the Lighthouse Lodge, Kerry Winstanley said: "I’m very proud to be part of a great caring team.

"I would like people to say that Lighthouse Lodge is a care home that has many initiatives and fantastic community involvement.

"Lighthouse Lodge is now the home that will spearhead vision in the caring sector."
