A JOGGER has been assaulted in a terrifying ordeal by a gang of men near the police headquarters in Winsford.

The 21-year old was jogging along Blakeden Lane near Cheshire Constabulary's dog kennels when he was attacked by a small group of men wearing dark clothing.

The man, from Winsford, suffered an eye injury and was treated at Leighton Hospital.

Detective Constable Chris Percival said: “This was a frightening incident that left the victim extremely shaken up and requiring hospital treatment for an eye injury.

“I would like to reassure the community that it is believed to be an isolated incident and we are determined to establish who was responsible for the unprovoked assault and make them face the consequences of their actions.

“Enquiries are ongoing and I urge anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident, or anything else that may be relevant to our investigation, to come forward.

“Perhaps you saw the group of two or three males wearing dark clothing that night, either before or after the incident occurred."

The unprovoked assault happened between 9pm and 10pm on Tuesday, February 12.

Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened or anything else that may help their investigation to get in touch.

They also want to speak to anyone who believes they may know who the offenders are.
