The fire at UCAN in Rudheath caused £2.4 million worth of damage and is still yet to be fully repaired.

The affect it has had on the students has been astronomical, according to Chief Inspector Simon Meegan, with the arson attack gutting the school just before year 11 students were due to take their GCSE exams.

The house in Essex, which Day also set fire to, was completely destroyed, with police saying the fire caused £1.6 million worth of damage.

One main piece of evidence which led fire officers to determine that the fires were deliberately started was the amount of seats of fire at both buildings.

Day had started fires at 20 points across the UCAN building, and 15 around the house in Essex.
