"SOME people never cease to amaze us."

That's how motorway police officers described the bizarre incident they faced on the M6 this morning, Monday.

Officers spotted the driver stopping just after Sandbach motorway servies in a live lane because his wife needed to use the toilet.

A spokesman added: "The driver stopped just past Sandbach services in the 'All lanes running area' while his wife decided to walk back to the services to use the facilities.

"The car stopped at the end of the entry slip road in a live lane to allow the passenger to walk the two minutes back to the services."

The picture above shows the view back to the motorways services.

Motorway officers later added it was 'frightening' watching the incident on CCTV as other vehicles swerved to avoid the car.

Officers said a Traffic Offence Report had been issued which will mean a fine and potentially points on his licence.

Advice from motorway officers is to always stop at the services if you need them.

The Highway Code states 'you MUST NOT stop on the carriageway, hard shoulder, slip road, central reservation or verge except in an emergency, or when told to do so by the police'.
