THEY say some things never change.

And there are two certainties in life – death and taxes.

Well as these great pictures show, it seems another thing is certain – protests about building on the green belt in Warrington and especially at Peel Hall.

We have been back in our archive to dig out this image showing a protest before a Town Hall meeting.

The placards carried by protestors call for protection of the green belt, Houghton Green and the scenery.

This picture is from the late 1980s but it has been mirrored multiple times since and more than 30 years later, the debate seems to be continuing and this image could easily have been from a meeting in the past 12 months..

Protestors won an appeal against building on Peel Hall before Christmas.

A modern day protest

But last week, the Warrington Guardian revealed how developers Satnam were back with new plans to build more than 1,100 homes on the land at Peel Hall.

And they are playing an appeal against the decision of the Government inspector as well.

Warrington North MP Helen Jones has long campaign for the land to be protected and earlier this year said: “The support for the preservation of our green spaces should not be underestimated.

“People know how important they are to our communities and that once they have been lost, they are lost forever.

“The developers have been rebuffed on several occasions and two public inquiries have rejected their plans.”
