MOTORISTS had a luck escape after a car accidentally caught fire on a flyover in Wirral.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were called to the flyover on Woodchurch Road at around 7.50pm yesterday (Thursday, May 16) following reports of a car well alight.

One fire engine attended and crews used two high pressure hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

After an investigation it is believed that the fire had started accidentally.

Firefighters left the scene at around 8.30pm.
