NORTHWICH residents are being warned of delays as two of the town’s bridges are set to swing just half-an-hour apart.

The Canal and River Trust (C&RT) have warned the Hayhurst Swing Bridge, which carries a westbound section of the A533, Chester Way, towards Castle and Winnington, will swing at 2.30pm on Thursday, May 9.

Drivers and pedestrians planning to cross the Weaver Navigation there should plan for delays of up to 30 minutes.

C&RT also announced Town Bridge, which carries an eastbound section of the A533 from Winnington into the town centre, will also swing on May 9, but at 3pm.

This could also take up to 30 minutes to complete.

Friday, May 10, will see steamboats from around the country assemble in Northwich for Steam at the Lift, a festival of coal-powered boats, wagons, steamrollers, and traction engines.

C&RT is yet to announce whether the arrival of the festival boats will mean the bridges have to swing again over the weekend.
