BOUND for the V Festival, Exit Calm bring their indomitable sounds to The Box in Crewe.

Following a sell out tour with Sunshine Underground and slots with the likes of The Twang, the guys arrive at the venue on Friday August 7.

Exit Calm are drummer Scott Pemberton, Simon Lindley on bass, guitarist Rob Marshall and frontman Nicky Smith.

Amidst vast waves of white noise, billowing swells of guitar and windmilling drum patterns, Smith croons and swoons his way to the fore; emoting like a spectral marriage of Ian Curtis and Mark Garedner.

But as dark and foreboding as this all may sound, Exit Calm stir up an invigorating optimism amidst all the dark brooding.

Fans include Verve guitarist Nick McCabe and The Enemy's Tom Clark.

Rock Sound magazine described their sound as: "Bruised indie-rock that builds and builds before spilling over into beauty one minute, and raw aggression the next."

To call them a breath of fresh air would be understating their value - quite simply they are one of the most exciting, invigorating and unique, guitar-based bands to emerge from these shores in quite some time.

Having initially formed in the South Yorkshire town of Barnsley back in late 2006, Exit Calm spent the next 18 months writing and honing their sound.

Spring 2008 saw them release their first limted release, live favourite 'Higher Learning' on clubAC30 Records while their euphoric live shows have attracted spates of attention culminating in them being invited as main support on The Music's Strength In Numbers UK tour in June 2008.

Comparisons to date have seen their mesmerising guitar eclipses likened to the early sounds of My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Spiritualized and the elaborate skyscraping voyages of Explosions In The Sky.

The captivating presence of Nicky Smith offers an intense aside to their brooding noise that renders them completely unforgettable once seen for the first time.

October saw the band head out on their biggest headline tour to date, while their debut single, We're On Our Own, has already been turning more than a few heads in the UK music industry.

Support comes from up and coming Stoke band The Rivalry.

Doors are from 8pm. Entry is £6.
