Police believe a burnt-out car found less than three miles from where a man was shot in a targeted attack could prove significant in their investigation.

The vehicle, a black Renault Megane, was discovered at Dunnottar Street, in the Ruchazie area of Glasgow, on Tuesday and will now be subject to forensic testing.

Detectives launched an attempted murder inquiry after two masked men forced entry to the 42-year-old’s flat on Wellshot Road in Shettleston and opened fire.

Medical staff at Glasgow Royal Infirmary have described his condition as serious but stable.

Detectives have been checking CCTV and speaking to local residents in an effort to identify who was responsible.

Officers have found a number of people unwilling to co-operate with police during their inquiry, possibly over fears of retribution.

They will return to the scene tomorrow, one week after the incident took place.

Detective Inspector John Morrison however urged members of the public to come forward.

He said: “We continue to experience a lack of information being provided to us by the public which is very disappointing. However, we are determined to find those people responsible for this violent attack.

“If you call the police with information, we do have mechanisms in place to protect you, so please do not hesitate to contact us.

“We know that there are people out there who have information that would assist with our enquiry, and we would urge them to pass on that information.”
