A TEENAGER says he will be inspired by the advice of a friend and former coach after he was appointed captain of Cheshire’s boys’ team.
Daniel Gibson, a member at Sandiway Golf Club, became a student of Graham Moore – who died last July – shortly after trying golf for the first time with his dad.
“Graham had a big influence on me,” he said.
“I learned so much from him, and have so much respect for his knowledge.
“He believed in me as a player, and I’m grateful for the support and opportunities he gave me.”
The 18-year-old, who lives in Hartford, was junior captain at his club last year and plays off a handicap of 0.1.
After receiving a sports diploma from Reaseheath College, he has decided to focus fully on improving his game this season.
He added: “I want to be the best I can.
“My target for 2019 is to continue working hard to reduce my handicap, and of course it’s a great honour to be asked to captain Cheshire’s under 18s.
“I’m excited, and am looking forward already to the big competitions.”
Gibson has been a member at Hartford and Portal in the past and joined the Graham Moore (GM) Junior Academy while still at primary school.
He has been a regular for Cheshire’s teams in recent seasons and made the cut at the English Boys’ Under 18s Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship last year.
