JAKE Mamo says he had to overcome plenty of pre-match nerves before starring on his Warrington Wolves debut.

The former Huddersfield Giants man scored a hat-trick of tries in the 38-12 win over Widnes Vikings in Ryan Atkins’ testimonial game on Sunday.

Mamo’s first two tries came from the right wing before completing his hat-trick with a score from full-back as he demonstrated the versatility he has been brought in to provide.

The 24-year-old says he was keen to use the friendly match to get his new teammates, coaches and fans onside before the Super League season started.

“I was quite nervous before the game – more nervous than I’d been before the game in a while, to be honest,” he said.

“With it being a new club and a new team, you want to play well for the new teammates you’ve been training with for the past few months.

“I wanted to impress the coaches and make the fans happy to have me.

“It all made me quite nervous at the start but I was happy with the hit-out.”
